    Windows PC:

    (For GOG specifics, see below)

Compare PC specifications to game system requirements:

The game may not download, launch or may crash if system requirements are not met.
These requirements may change as we optimize the game.

Operating System: 64 bit, Windows 7 and above
Processor: Triple-core Intel or AMD, 2.0 GHz or faster
    Memory: 8 GB RAM
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 460 GTX or AMD Radeon 5870 HD series or higher, Mobile: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580M or higher.
DirectX: DirectX 11, Shader Model 4
Storage: 6 GB of available space

If you are unsure if your Video card meets our minimum requirements, you can search for your video card Here
Your 'Passmark G3D Mark' number should be 2500 or higher.

PCs running Windows versions N and KN:

The error "The program can't start because MFReadWrite.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem." may appear when attempting to launch the game outside of steam.
The game requires Windows Media Foundation which does not come packaged with Windows editions N (Europe) or KN (Korea). If your game will not launch, Installing Windows Media Foundation should fix this issue.

    Windows Media Foundation Download links:
    Windows 7 N/KN w/ SP1
    Windows 8 N/KN
    Windows 8.1 N/KN
    Windows 8.1 Update N/KN
    Windows 10 N/KN
    Windows 10 N w/ Anniversary Update

PCs running Windows 7 and Windows 8:

It is possible that your PC is missing critical Windows updates that are required to run the game.

Download links: (Make sure you select the correct X64 OS version)
    Install KB2999226 update
    Install VC Runtime for 2015

    Update graphics card drivers:

Various issues may occur if graphics card drivers are not up to date such as strange graphical issues and slower then usual frame rate.
We recommend manually uninstalling your drivers and reinstalling them from scratch as sometimes drivers do not install properly over existing installations.

The most up to date drivers can be found here:
    Nvidia Drivers
    AMD Drivers

    Verify Integrity of Game Cache:

Steam download may not have completed successfully which can cause the game not to launch or crash.

How to Verify Integrity of Game Cache:
    1. Open steam
    2. Navigate to Library
    3. Right-click on We Happy few
    4. Select ‘Properties’
    5. Select ‘Local files’
    6. Select ‘Verify integrity of game cache…’
    7. Steam will verify the game's files - this process may take several minutes.

    Restarting your PC

Restarting your PC may help if you are experiencing any issues.

    Incompatible software:

Third party software can cause the game not to run or crash. Try quitting all programs before running the game. This issue may occur with xapture or streaming services as they can interfere with performance.

    Crashing when selecting 'Continue'

The game may crash or not function correctly when attempting to continue a save game that was created on an older version of the game. We recommend starting a new game after an update to avoid issues as save games may not always be compatible between updates.

Improving performance on PCs with slower graphics cards:

PCs with slower graphics cards may encounter issues with the game not launching, game crashing and low frame rate.

Setting launch options may be needed if the game does not launch or you are unable to change the graphics settings directly in the game.

How to set launch options to run the game in windowed mode:
    1. Open steam
    2. Navigate to Library
    3. Right-click on We Happy few
    4. Select ‘Properties’
    5. Select ‘Set launch options…’
    6. Enter the following string of text: -nohwdetect -ResX 1280 -ResY 720 -Windowed
    7. Select OK
    8. Launch game through steam
    9. Change settings listed in 'How to lower graphics settings' below

    How to lower graphics settings:
    1. Launch game
    2. Select Options
    3. Select Graphics
    4. Set Fullscreen Mode to Windowed
    5. Set Aspect Ration to 16:9
    6. Set Resolution to 1280x720
    7. Set Quality to Low
    8. Select Apply Changes

Crashes that cause the whole PC to shutdown or restart

If your PC reboots or shuts down while playing the game, this is most likely a system issue.
If you have already tried everything listed above, we recommend trying:
    Check for system overheating
    Diagnose PC crash

The solutions listed above did not resolve my issue, now what?
